Prop 39: The Clean Energy Jobs Act Needs Your Endorsement!

Endorsed by the Green Chamber of Commerce, California small and sustainable businesses, a myriad of organizations across the state and major newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times, San Jose Mercury News, and Sacramento Bee, the successful passing of Proposition 39 will close an unfair tax loophole that allows out-of-state businesses to pay lower taxes than those based in California.

Closing this loophole would generate over $1 billion a year for California, directly injecting funds into green energy projects across the state and helping to reduce the state’s budget deficit.  Prop 39 accomplishes this objective by ensuring all companies in California use a “single sales factor”  based on the percentage of sales they make in state regardless of where they are incorporated.

New state funds generated by this change would bring jobs and investment back to California in the form of public projects that improve our schools and public service buildings, put tens of thousands of Californians back to work, and save taxpayer dollars in lower energy costs.  This policy is already being followed by other large states such as New York, Texas and Michigan who have changed their tax laws to follow the “single sales factor” approach.
